The Place of Hell

1. Where is the Place of Hell?

Dear brothers and sisters that are listening these words right now, this message is not for condemnation but salvation; so you can test yourself and see the condition of your heart before the Lord. This is so that you can change your ways, for salvation and not for condemnation. Right now, lift your heart before the Lord and confess your sins, so if the Lord came at this moment you could go with Him instead of going to that place of torment where there is crying and gnashing of teeth. There, you will really understand why Jesus paid such a high price at Calvary's cross.

(a)Korah, Dathan, and Abiram

Numbers 16:27,30-34
27.So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
30But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

31And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

30. கர்த்தர் ஒரு புதிய காரியத்தை நேரிடச்செய்வதால், பூமி தன் வாயைத் திறந்து, இவர்கள் உயிரோடே பாதாளத்தில் இறங்கத்தக்கதாக இவர்களையும் இவர்களுக்கு உண்டான யாவையும் விழுங்கிப்போட்டதேயானால், இந்த மனிதர் கர்த்தரை அவமதித்தார்கள் என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்வீர்கள் என்றான்.

31. அவன் இந்த வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் சொல்லி முடித்தவுடனே, அவர்கள் நின்றிருந்த நிலம் பிளந்தது;

32. பூமி தன் வாயைத் திறந்து, அவர்களையும் அவர்கள் வீடுகளையும், கோராகுக்குரிய எல்லா மனிதரையும், அவர்களுக்கு உண்டான சகல பொருள்களையும் விழுங்கிப்போட்டது.

33. அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு உண்டானவை எல்லாவற்றோடும் உயிரோடே பாதாளத்தில் இறங்கினார்கள்; பூமி அவர்களை மூடிக்கொண்டது; இப்படிச் சபையின் நடுவிலிருந்து அழிந்துபோனார்கள்.

34. அவர்களைச் சுற்றிலும் இருந்த இஸ்ரவேலர் யாவரும் அவர்கள் கூக்குரலைக்கேட்டு, பூமி நம்மையும் விழுங்கிப்போடும் என்று சொல்லி ஓடினார்கள்.

(b) Hell from beneath

Isaiah 14:9-17
9Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
10All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
11Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

9. கீழே இருக்கிற பாதாளம் உன்னிமித்தம் அதிர்ந்து, உன் வருகைக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு, பூமியில் அதிபதிகளாயிருந்து செத்த இராட்சதர் யாவரையும் உன்னிமித்தம் எழுப்பி, ஜாதிகளுடைய எல்லா ராஜாக்களையும் அவர்களுடைய சிங்காசனங்களிலிருந்து எழுந்திருக்கப்பண்ணுகிறது.

10. அவர்களெல்லாரும் உன்னை நோக்கி: நீயும் எங்களைப்போல பலட்சயமானாயோ? எங்களுக்குச் சமானமானாயோ? என்று சொல்லுவார்கள்.

11. உன் ஆடம்பரமும், உன் வாத்தியங்களின் முழக்கமும் பாதாளத்தில் தள்ளுண்டுபோயிற்று; புழுக்களே உன் படுக்கை, பூச்சிகளே உன் போர்வை.

12. அதிகாலையின் மகனாகிய விடிவெள்ளியே, நீ வானத்திலிருந்து விழுந்தாயே! ஜாதிகளை ஈனப்படுத்தினவனே, நீ தரையிலே விழ வெட்டப்பட்டாயே!

13. நான் வானத்துக்கு ஏறுவேன், தேவனுடைய நட்சத்திரங்களுக்குமேலாக என் சிங்காசனத்தை உயர்த்துவேன்; வடபுறங்களிலுள்ள ஆராதனைக் கூட்டத்தின் பர்வதத்திலே வீற்றிருப்பேன் என்றும்,

14. நான் மேகங்களுக்கு மேலாக உன்னதங்களில் ஏறுவேன்; உன்னதமானவருக்கு ஒப்பாவேன் என்றும் நீ உன் இருதயத்தில் சொன்னாயே.

15. ஆனாலும் நீ அகாதமான பாதாளத்திலே தள்ளுண்டுபோனாய்.

16. உன்னைக் காண்கிறவர்கள் உன்னை உற்றுப்பார்த்து, உன்னைக் குறித்துச் சிந்தித்து இவன்தானா பூமியைத் தத்தளிக்கவும், ராஜ்யங்களை அதிரவும் செய்து,

17. உலகத்தை வனாந்தரமாக்கி, அதின் நகரங்களை அழித்து, சிறைப்பட்டவர்களைத் தங்கள் வீடுகளுக்குப் போகவிடாமலிருந்தவன் என்பார்கள்.

(c) Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ Matthew 12:40

40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

மத்தேயு 12:40

40. யோனா இரவும் பகலும் மூன்றுநாள் ஒரு பெரிய மீனின் வயிற்றில் இருந்தது போல, மனுஷகுமாரனும் இரவும் பகலும் மூன்றுநாள் பூமியின் இருதயத்தில் இருப்பார்.

1 Peter 3:18-20
18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

(d)காவலிலுள்ள ஆவிகள்

I பேதுரு 3:18-20

18. ஏனெனில், கிறிஸ்துவும் நம்மைத் தேவனிடத்தில் சேர்க்கும்படி அநீதியுள்ளவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக நீதியுள்ளவராய்ப் பாவங்களினிமித்தம் ஒருதரம் பாடுபட்டார்; அவர் மாம்சத்திலே கொலையுண்டு, ஆவியிலே உயிர்ப்பிக்கப்பட்டார்.

19. அந்த ஆவியிலே அவர் போய்க் காவலிலுள்ள ஆவிகளுக்குப் பிரசங்கித்தார்.

(e) Everlasting Fire prepared for the devil and his angels

Matthew25 :41

41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

(f) Rich man and Lazarus

Luke 16:19-26

19There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

19. ஐசுவரியமுள்ள ஒரு மனுஷன் இருந்தான்; அவன் இரத்தாம்பரமும் விலையேறப்பெற்ற வஸ்திரமும் தரித்து, அநுதினமும் சம்பிரமமாய் வாழ்ந்துகொண்டிருந்தான்.

20. லாசரு என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு தரித்திரனும் இருந்தான்; அவன் பருக்கள் நிறைந்தவனாய், அந்த ஐசுவரியவானுடைய வாசலருகே கிடந்து,

23. பாதாளத்திலே அவன் வேதனைப்படுகிறபோது, தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்து, தூரத்திலே ஆபிரகாமையும் அவன் மடியிலே லாசருவையும் கண்டான்.

24. அப்பொழுது அவன்: தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாமே, நீர் எனக்கு இரங்கி, லாசரு தன் விரலின் நுனியைத் தண்ணீரில் தோய்த்து, என் நாவைக் குளிரப்பண்ணும்படி அவனை அனுப்பவேண்டும்; இந்த அக்கினிஜுவாலையில் வேதனைப்படுகிறேனே என்று கூப்பிட்டான்.

25. அதற்கு ஆபிரகாம்: மகனே, நீ பூமியிலே உயிரோடிருக்குங் காலத்தில் உன் நன்மைகளை அனுபவித்தாய், லாசருவும் அப்படியே தீமைகளை அநுபவித்தான், அதை நினைத்துக்கொள்; இப்பொழுது அவன் தேற்றப்படுகிறான், நீயோ வேதனைப்படுகிறாய்.

26. அதுவுமல்லாமல், இவ்விடத்திலிருந்து உங்களிடத்திற்குக் கடந்துபோகவும், அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து எங்களிடத்திற்குக் கடந்துவரவும் மனதுள்ளவர்களுக்குக் கூடாதபடிக்கு, எங்களுக்கும் உங்களுக்கும் நடுவே பெரும்பிளப்பு உண்டாக்கப்பட்டிக்கிறது என்றான்.

(g) Outer darkness

Matthew 8:12
12.But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

புறம்பான இருள்

மத்தேயு 8:12
12. ராஜ்யத்தின் புத்திரரோ புறம்பான இருளிலே தள்ளப்படுவார்கள்; அங்கே அழுகையும் பற்கடிப்பும் உண்டாயிருக்குமென்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

don't go to that place(Hell). It is a horrid place of torments, excruciating pain and eternal sorrow. Your soul will always be alive. The soul lives forever. It is the real you, and your soul will go to either heaven or hell.

To those of you who think that hell is here on earth-well, you are right-it is! Hell is in the center of the earth, and there are souls in torment there night and day. There are no parties in hell. No love. No compassion. No rest. Only a place of sorrow beyond your belief.

Proverbs 28:13

13.He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

37.All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Forgive him

Those of you who read this Message, please, I beg of you, repent of your sins. Call on Jesus and ask Him to save you. Call on Him today. Do not wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow may not come. Time is quickly running out. Fall on your knees and be cleansed from your sins. Be good to each other. For Jesus' sake, be kind and forgiving to one another.
If you are angry with someone, forgive him. No anger is worth going to hell for. Be forgiving as Christ forgives us of our sins. Jesus is able to keep us if we have a repentant heart and will let His blood cleanse us from all sin. Love your children, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Jesus says: "My salvation is free. Whoever will, let him come and be saved from this place of everlasting punishment. I will not cast him out. If you have been a witch or a warlock, even if you have a written agreement with the devil, My power will break it, and My shed blood will save you. I will take the evil curse off your life and redeem you from hell. Give me your heart that I may unchain you and set you free."

Marriage

Hebrews 13:4

4Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

"Again I tell you, do not defile the marriage bed. Do not defile the body in which the Holy Ghost dwells. Sins of the body lead to sins of the spirit. Keep the marriage bed holy. I made man for woman and woman for man and decreed that the two should be united in holy matrimony. Again, I say awake."

The Bible, the word of God, is very clear about the subject of heaven and hell. In this portion that we have just read, the Lord tells us about two places: Heaven and Hell, the condemnation or the salvation. There is no intermediate place. Purgatory does not exist. Limbo does not exist, where men exist for a while after they have departed from the Earth and then go to heaven; the Bible is very clear about that.

Fifth Angel Revelation 9:1-3

1And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
2And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
3And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

Outer Darkness

To those of you who think that hell is here on earth-well, you are right-it is! Hell is in the center of the earth, and there are souls in torment there night and day. There are no parties in hell. No love. No compassion. No rest. Only a place of sorrow beyond your belief.

Psalm 16:10

10For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Acts 2:27,30,31

27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Job 26:6
6Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
Amos 9:2

2Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:
Ephesians 4:8,9

8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

Today, people try to rank the gravity of sins; they think that homosexuals, thieves, and murderers are greater sinners than liars or gossips. But in the eyes of the Lord, all these sins have the same weight and the same pay. The Bible tells us, "The wages of sin is death" "the soul that sins will die." (Romans 6:23) (Ezekiel 18:20) My friends and brothers, I invite you now to accept Jesus' invitation. Jesus is extending His hand of mercy to you if you repent. The Word of the Lord tells us that the one that changes his ways and repents will be given mercy. It is much better to believe now, than to wait and find out the hard way later. God bless you.

THERE IS GOING TO BE A GRAND WELCOME TO THE DRUNKERS TO THE HELL

Isaiah 5:11-14

11Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
12And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
13Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.
14Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

Inside the Earth

For the first time in history, the physical structure of earth’s interior became vaguely evident. The seismographic data painted the popular picture of the interior’s earth that consisted of three main layers: the crust, mantle and core. Scientists determined the three layers by mapping the change in structure from the seismographic readings.
The most revealing view of the earth’s interior comes from the observation of earthquake waves propagated over long distances. . . A brief description of the seismographic portrait of the earth’s three layers is as follows:

The Crust

The crust forms the earth’s outer layer. It is solid consisting of approximately 30 miles deep on land and 5-10 miles deep in the ocean floor. The crust creates the land area on which we live.

The Mantle
The mantle occupies the Earth’s middle layer. It travels roughly 1,800 miles (2,900 km) and appears solid. Scientists speculate the mantle consist of iron and nickel.

The Core
The core inhabits the "heart of the earth." It begins after the mantle, at approximately 1,800 miles under your feet. Geophysicists divide the core into an inner and outer core. The outer core literally consists of a "lake of fire" of molten iron and sulfur. It reaches a temperature of over 12,000 Fahrenheit, which is hotter than the surface of the sun! The lake of fire erupting from the mouth of a volcano comes from the outer core, travels through fractures in the mantle and out via cracks in the crust. The core contains the place of hell. The core also offers earth science’s greatest mystery.
The following significant breakthroughs in the study of the earth’s interior recently came to light due to seismographic data. Notice, all these discoveries occurred in the last 100 years—and they all confirm the Bible’s description of hell.

In 1906, R.D. Oldham discovered the liquid core.
In 1913, German geophysicist Beno Gutenberg discovered the mantle-core boundary.
In 1915, Beno Gutenberg calculated the size of the earth’s core.
In 1926, geophysicist Sir Harold Jeffreys verified the "heart of the earth" contained a "lake of fire."
In 1936, Danish seismologist Inge Lehmann discovered a distinct boundary in the Earth’s core, creating the outer and inner core.
In the early 1960s, the size of the inner core was calculated from the seismic data generated from a nuclear test in Nevada.
Jesus Christ gave precise details of the earth’s interior that match exactly what scientists have only recently discovered. For thousands of years, science spawned bogus theories of: mystic winds blowing through the earth producing fire breathing friction; or Vulcan myths, legends and monsters; or the magic of fire producing electricity; or fire-breathing radioactive decay; or maybe some silly flaming rudiment left over from the comical "Big Bang" delusion.
Finally, after several thousand years of zany slap-stick theories, science repents and confesses – a lake of fire really dwells in the earth. The truth is — they now have no other choice. The scientific evidence burns too bright.
Let us pause and fully digest the scientific knowledge that Jesus Christ understood of the earth’s interior. Do not take this lightly. Our generation possesses an inherent obstacle in realizing the supernatural revelations of the Bible. We live in an advanced age when mankind has conquered and discovered many incredible frontiers. Computers, robotics, nuclear mechanics, space shuttles, nanotechnology, DNA and scores of everyday innovations fill our world that a few short years ago were unimaginable. With the advent of television, we can actually see volcanoes erupting, earthquakes cracking and scores of incredible events. When we read the Bible with the enhanced mindset of the twenty-first century we naturally react, "Big deal, everybody knew that." But they didn’t two thousand years ago when Jesus Christ walked this earth. Science did not realize a lake of fire was inside the earth until 1926!
In an interview with U.S. Geological Survey, geophysicist Sir Harold Jeffreys was asked for his "most significant contributions to seismology?"
HS: Which do you regard as the most significant of your contributions to seismology? JEFFREYS: Three, I would say. First, the definite statement in 1926 that the Earth's core is liquid.

It was humanly impossible for Jesus Christ to know inside this earth roars an ocean of fire. We previously read where the limited knowledge of His day was myth, monsters and superstitions. There were no publications describing erupting volcanoes. The first recorded eyewitness account of an erupting volcano was not available until 104 A.D. in Italy – not Israel. Nearly one hundred years after Jesus Christ walked this earth.
It was not until 1926 that science finally discovered the earth contains a lake of fire! Yet, the man, Jesus Christ authoritatively and repeatedly preached this over 2,000 years ago!
"The paper came out in Science in April 1987. . . By anyone’s measure, this was an eventful year. The researchers declared the temperature at the center of the earth to be approximately 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit. That was thousands of degrees higher than past estimates. As recent as 1982, esteemed geophysicist Dr. Bolt stated, "it appears impossible to fix temperatures. . . in the core better than 1000 C [1832 F]". (Bruce A. Bolt, Inside the Earth, p. 162)
Just four short years later, geophysicists in two separate experiments demonstrated the earth’s core greater than 12,000F! Again, science inadvertently endorses a place that the Bible described precisely thousands of years ago. Throughout those thousands of years, while science zealously concocted hundreds and hundreds of fallacies and delusions, the Bible never flinched. It never wavered. Science smugly ridiculed, mocked and snickered at the Lord Jesus’ in-depth descriptions of hell. Now thousands of years later, the evidence literally burns too hot and too bright that even skeptical science can not extinguish it. Is there any doubt to the reality of the place called hell?
The Birmingham News of April, 10, 1987 reported their findings in an article titled, "Earth’s Center Hotter Than Sun’s Surface, Scientists Say:" The article states the extreme temperatures at the core surprised the scientists in that "the finding. . . suggests the core" [the heart of the earth] "is the source of much of the heat." The Lord Jesus described the core or heart of the earth thousands of years ago as a flaming lake of fire.
The center of the Earth is hotter than the sun’s surface with temperatures thousands of degrees higher than once thought, say scientists who used diamonds and guns to mimic pressures at the planet’s core. Earth’s inner core has a temperature of about 12,420 degrees Fahrenheit compared with previous estimates of 4,900 to 6,700 degrees, scientists from the University of California at Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology reported today in the journal Science. . . The finding is surprising because it suggests the core [the heart of the earth], not the overlying mantle, is the source of much of the heat that makes huge plates of the Earth’s crust slide over its surface in a process called continental drift or plate tectonics. . .

In Raging Planet, author Bill McGuire unintentionally repeats the words of Deuteronomy 32:22 – it is inside the "heart of the earth" where the fires of hell burn:

Here, nearly 3,100 miles (5,000km) beneath the surface, is the Earth’s heart, a part liquid, part solid ball of nickel and iron as hot as the surface of the Sun.

Revelation 20 describes the Great White Throne Judgment where the devil and those who reject the Lord Jesus Christ are "cast in the lake of fire and brimstone."
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

The book Volcanoes by Pierre Kohler (p. 43), records when Mt. St Helens erupted in 1980, 150,000 tons of sulfurous gas (brimstone) expelled from inside the earth.
Renowned geophysicist, J.A. Jacobs records the discovery of sulfur utilized in the fire of the outer core, "Originally, sulphur was proposed as the light component in the OC [Outer Core] by Murphy and Hall (1970) primarily because it is depleted in the rest of the Earth compared to cosmic abundances." (J. A. Jacobs, Deep Interior of the Earth, p. 59)
According to Jacobs, it was just as recent as 1970, that science discovered the fire in the earth contained sulphur! And yet the Old Testament recorded this over 3,000 years ago.

There are many different types of volcanic eruptions and associated activity: phreatic eruptions (steam-generated eruptions), explosive eruption of high-silica lava (e.g., rhyolite), effusive eruption of low-silica lava (e.g., basalt), pyroclastic flows, lahars (debris flow) and carbon dioxide emission. All of these activities can pose a hazard to humans. Earthquakes, hot springs, fumaroles, mud pots and geysers often accompany volcanic activity.
The concentrations of different volcanic gases can vary considerably from one volcano to the next. Water vapor is typically the most abundant volcanic gas, followed by carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide. Other principal volcanic gases include hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen chloride, and hydrogen fluoride. A large number of minor and trace gases are also found in volcanic emissions, for example hydrogen, carbon monoxide, halocarbons, organic compounds, and volatile metal chlorides.
Large, explosive volcanic eruptions inject water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrogen chloride (HCl), hydrogen fluoride (HF) and ash (pulverized rock and pumice) into the stratosphere to heights of 16–32 kilometres (10–20 mi) above the Earth's surface. The most significant impacts from these injections come from the conversion of sulfur dioxide to sulfuric acid (H2SO4), which condenses rapidly in the stratosphere to form fine sulfate aerosols. The aerosols increase the Earth's albedo—its reflection of radiation from the Sun back into space - and thus cool the Earth's lower atmosphere or troposphere; however, they also absorb heat radiated up from the Earth, thereby warming the stratosphere. Several eruptions during the past century have caused a decline in the average temperature at the Earth's surface of up to half a degree (Fahrenheit scale) for periods of one to three years — sulfur dioxide from the eruption of Huaynaputina probably caused the Russian famine of 1601 - 1603.[12]
One proposed volcanic winter happened c. 70,000 years ago following the supereruption of Lake Toba on Sumatra island in Indonesia.[13] According to the Toba catastrophe theory to which some anthropologists and archeologists subscribe, it had global consequences,[14] killing most humans then alive and creating a population bottleneck that affected the genetic inheritance of all humans today.[15] The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora created global climate anomalies that became known as the "Year Without a Summer" because of the effect on North American and European weather.[16] Agricultural crops failed and livestock died in much of the Northern Hemisphere, resulting in one of the worst famines of the 19th century.[17] The freezing winter of 1740-41, which led to widespread famine in northern Europe, may also owe its origins to a volcanic eruption.[18]
It has been suggested that volcanic activity caused or contributed to the End-Ordovician, Permian-Triassic, Late Devonian mass extinctions, and possibly others. The massive eruptive event which formed the Siberian Traps, one of the largest known volcanic events of the last 500 million years of Earth's geological history, continued for a million years and is considered to be the likely cause of the "Great Dying" about 250 million years ago,[19] which is estimated to have killed 90% of species existing at the time.[20]
The sulfate aerosols also promote complex chemical reactions on their surfaces that alter chlorine and nitrogen chemical species in the stratosphere. This effect, together with increased stratospheric chlorine levels from chlorofluorocarbon pollution, generates chlorine monoxide (ClO), which destroys ozone (O3). As the aerosols grow and coagulate, they settle down into the upper troposphere where they serve as nuclei for cirrus clouds and further modify the Earth's radiation balance. Most of the hydrogen chloride (HCl) and hydrogen fluoride (HF) are dissolved in water droplets in the eruption cloud and quickly fall to the ground as acid rain. The injected ash also falls rapidly from the stratosphere; most of it is removed within several days to a few weeks. Finally, explosive volcanic eruptions release the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide and thus provide a deep source of carbon for biogeochemical cycles.
Gas emissions from volcanoes are a natural contributor to acid rain. Volcanic activity releases about 130 to 230 teragrams (145 million to 255 million short tons) of carbon dioxide each year.[21] Volcanic eruptions may inject aerosols into the Earth's atmosphere. Large injections may cause visual effects such as unusually colorful sunsets and affect global climate mainly by cooling it. Volcanic eruptions also provide the benefit of adding nutrients to soil through the weathering process of volcanic rocks. These fertile soils assist the growth of plants and various crops. Ash thrown into the air by eruptions can present a hazard to aircraft, especially jet aircraft where the particles can be melted by the high operating temperature. Dangerous encounters in 1982 after the eruption of Galunggung in Indonesia, and 1989 after the eruption of Mount Redoubt in Alaska raised awareness of this phenomenon. Nine Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers were established by the International Civil Aviation Organization to monitor ash clouds and advise pilots accordingly. The 2010 eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull caused major disruptions to air travel in Europe.

எரிமலைகளிலிருந்து வெளிப்படும் வாயுக்கள் அமில மழைக்கு இயல்பான பங்களிப்பாளராக இருக்கின்றன. எரிமலைச் செயல்பாடுகள் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் ஏறத்தாழ 130 முதல் 230 டெராகிராம்கள்(145 மில்லியன் முதல் 255 மி்ல்லியன் வரையிலான ஷார்ட் டன்கள்) வரையிலான கார்பன் டையைக்ஸைடை வெளியிடுகிறது.[2]எரிமலை உமிழ்வுகள் பூமியின் காற்றுமண்டலத்திற்குள்ளாக சாரல்களை தூண்டக்கூடும். பெரிய தூண்டல்கள் வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறான வண்ண அஸ்தமனம் போன்ற காட்சி அம்சங்களுக்கு காரணமாகலாம் என்பதோடு உலகளாவிய தட்பவெப்பத்தை குளிர்வித்து பாதிக்கச் செய்யலாம். எரிமலை உமிழ்வுகள் எரிமலைப் பாறைகளின் தட்பவெப்பநிலை நிகழ்முறை மூலமாக மண்ணில் புரதங்களை அதிகரிக்கச் செய்யும் பலனை வழங்கக்கூடியவையாகவும் இருக்கின்றன. இத்தகைய உரமேற்றப்பட்ட மண் செடிகளும் பல்வேறு பயிர்களும் வளர்வதற்கு உதவுகின்றன. எரிமலை உமிழ்வுகள், மாக்மாக்கள் தண்ணீருடன் சேர்ந்து குளிர்வித்து கெட்டிப்படுத்துகையில் புதிய தீவுகளையும் உருவாக்கக்கூடும்.

பெயர்வரலாறு

வால்கனோ(Volcano) என்ற பெயர் Vulcano அதாவது ரோமானிய புராணீகத்தி்ல் நெருப்புக் கடவுளின் பெயரான வல்கன் (புராணீகம்) என்பதிலிருந்து உருவான இத்தாலியின் இயோலியன் தீவுகளில் உள்ள எரிமலைத் தீவிலிருந்து பெறப்பட்டது.
எரிமலைகளைப் பற்றிய ஆய்வு volcanology எனப்படுகிறது, சிலபோது vulcanology என்றும் உச்சரிக்கப்படுகிறது.
இந்தத் தீவிற்கான ரோமானியப் பெயரான Vulcano பெரும்பாலான நவீன ஐரோப்பிய மொழிகளில் உள்ள எரிமலை க்கான வார்த்தையை வழங்கியுள்ளது.

Sulfur (Sanskrit, गन्धक sulvari; Latin Sulphurium) was known in ancient times and is referred to in the Torah (Genesis).
English translations of the Bible commonly referred to burning sulfur as "brimstone", giving rise to the name of 'fire-and-brimstone' sermons, in which listeners are reminded of the fate of eternal damnation that await the unbelieving and unrepentant.

It is from this part of the Bible that Hell is implied to "smell of sulfur" (likely due to its association with volcanic activity). According to the Ebers Papyrus, a sulfur ointment was used in ancient Egypt to treat granular eyelids. Sulfur was used for fumigation in preclassical Greece;[2] this is mentioned in the Odyssey.[3] Pliny the Elder discusses sulfur in book 35 of his Natural History, saying that its best-known source is the island of Melos. He also mentions its use for fumigation, medicine, and bleaching cloth.[4]
A natural form of sulfur known as shiliuhuang was known in China since the 6th century BC and found in Hanzhong.[5] By the 3rd century, the Chinese discovered that sulfur could be extracted from pyrite.[5] Chinese Daoists were interested in sulfur's flammability and its reactivity with certain metals, yet its earliest practical uses were found in traditional Chinese medicine.[5] A Song Dynasty military treatise of 1044 AD described different formulas for Chinese black powder, which is a mixture of potassium nitrate (KNO3), charcoal, and sulfur. Early alchemists gave sulfur its own alchemical symbol which was a triangle at the top of a cross.
In 1777, Antoine Lavoisier helped convince the scientific community that sulfur was an element and not a compound. In 1867, sulfur was discovered in underground deposits in Louisiana and Texas. The overlying layer of earth was quicksand, prohibiting ordinary mining operations; therefore, the Frasch process was developed.

The element has traditionally been spelled sulphur in the United Kingdom (since the 14th century),[6] most of the Commonwealth including India, Malaysia, South Africa, and Hong Kong, along with the rest of the Caribbean and Ireland, but sulfur in the United States, while both spellings are used in Canada and the Philippines. IUPAC adopted the spelling “sulfur” in 1990, as did the Royal Society of Chemistry Nomenclature Committee in 1992.[7] The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for England and Wales recommended its use in 2000.[8]
In Latin, the word is variously written sulpur, sulphur, and sulfur (the Oxford Latin Dictionary lists the spellings in this order). It is an original Latin name and not a Classical Greek loan, so the ph variant does not denote the Greek letter φ (phi). Sulfur in Greek is thion (θείον), whence comes the prefix thio-. The simplification of the Latin words p or ph to an f appears to have taken place towards the end of the classical period

Occurrence

Elemental sulfur can be found near hot springs and volcanic regions in many parts of the world, especially along the Pacific Ring of Fire. Such volcanic deposits are currently mined in Indonesia, Chile, and Japan. Sicily is also famous for its sulfur mines. Significant deposits of elemental sulfur also exist in salt domes along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and in evaporites in eastern Europe and western Asia. The sulfur in these deposits is believed to come from the action of anaerobic bacteria on sulfate minerals, especially gypsum, although apparently native sulfur may be produced by geological processes alone, without the aid of living organisms (see below). However, fossil-based sulfur deposits from salt domes are the basis for commercial production in the United States, Poland, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.

Sulfur production through hydrodesulfurization of oil, gas, and the Athabasca Oil Sands has produced a surplus — huge stockpiles of sulfur now exist throughout Alberta, Canada.
Common naturally occurring sulfur compounds include the sulfide minerals, such as pyrite (iron sulfide), cinnabar (mercury sulfide), galena (lead sulfide), sphalerite (zinc sulfide) and stibnite (antimony sulfide); and the sulfates, such as gypsum (calcium sulfate), alunite (potassium aluminium sulfate), and barite (barium sulfate). It occurs naturally in volcanic emissions, such as from hydrothermal vents, and from bacterial action on decaying sulfur-containing organic matter.
The distinctive colors of Jupiter's volcanic moon, Io, are from various forms of molten, solid and gaseous sulfur. There is also a dark area near the Lunar crater Aristarchus that may be a sulfur deposit.
Sulfur is present in many types of meteorites. Ordinary chondrites contain on average 2.1% sulfur, and carbonaceous chondrites may contain as much as 6.6%. Sulfur in meteorites is normally present as troilite (FeS), but other sulfides are found in some meteorites, and carbonaceous chondrites contain free sulfur, sulfates, and possibly other sulfur compounds.
